Welcome to Utopia Resort, Lamai Beach, Samui
Lamai's most popular Resort and Hotel
Located at the Beach of Lamai, away from the hustle and bustle of the main resort area, Utopia is an hideaway in a lush tropical setting adjacent to the finest sandy beach in Koh Samui.
There are 33 Thai-style cottages direct at the beach, each offering privacy from the others, set in a colorful and exotic garden with meandering paths, bubbling streams, fish ponds and teak bridges. Each cottage is a small bungalow comprising a sleeping area with either queen size or twin single beds and a living area. Outside there is a private terrace overlooking the garden. Our cottages combine the best of Thai style with Western comforts and amenities. The carved roof panels, doors, floors and windows are of solid teak and the fabrics are of finest Thai cotton and silk. Of course individual air-conditioning, ceiling fan, hot shower and satellite-television come as standard. The bathrooms are unique, with hot showers, as well as the private terrace.
Utopia Restaurant, located between our bungalows and the beach, is established as the restaurant of choice in Lamai. You can dine under the stars overlooking the sea or in an Ayuthaya-style restaurant overlooking the garden. Utopia menu combines the best of international and Thai cuisine with the emphasis on fresh seafood complemented by an extensive selection of wines from around the world.
Despite all of the above, our real point of difference is the professionalism and friendliness of our 16 members of staff who make Utopia "simply the best".
Thailand's southern paradise island - the third largest in the country - lies in the Gulf of Siam and has long been famed for its incomparable beauty as a truly tropical island. Lamai Beach, with its silver-white powder-fine sand and crystal clear blue water, is one of the best beaches in the world. Koh Samui is an island of coconut palms - about 2,5 million of them. For sightseeing Samui has much to offer - the mountainous interior conceals coffee and rubber plantations as well as tracts of untouched jungle and spectacular waterfalls. The most impressive landmark is the Big Buddha, a huge golden image set on a rocky peninsula jutting into the sea. For a trip around the island we suggest you rent a car or a motorbike - please contact our Front-Desk.
Utopia Resort lies on the best part of Lamai Beach, where there is no coral reef. Water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, and many other activities are available on the beach. Lamai Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The 6 km white powder sand beach with crystal clear pristine aqua-colour water is of course the natural centre of the island with the coconut palms avenue cover all of the resorts, shops, restaurants, dive shops and bars along the beach. Lamai offers hide-away places, even on the White Beach or other small beaches with just a short bike ride or walk. If you like more crowded areas, you will find it as well. There are all types of restaurants and bars, shops and services, for the budget traveller to the most exclusive. The shallow water make it fun and safe for childeren to play and enjoy in the sand at the beach. There is little if any gelly fish, no pollution and garbage to worry about for the children. Thais in general love kids and always keep an eye on them as well.
North-west of Koh Samui is the Angthong Marine National Park consisting of 47 islands. Visiting the park is a full day excursion - please contact our Front-Desk for tickets.
Fishing, Snorkeling and Scuba diving
Lamai Beach offers you a choice of trips for fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving from a half day to as long as 3 days - we will be happy to provide you with details and prices. During local dives you are likely to see a surprising variety of hard corals & a healthy cross section of reef & pelagic fish. The main structure of the reefs is hump coral (porites sp.), offering shelter to several different staghorn & table corals, plate & leaf corals, some extensive anemone corals, large brain corals (etc etc!) plus filter & soft corals on the deeper sites. Every dive should introduce you to a variety of damselfish, angelfish, groupers (some of a fair size!), goatfish, wrasse & parrotfish, snapper & anemonefish to name but a few. You can also find stingray, big schooling barracuda, cuttlefish, tuna & hunting mackerel for example.
Trek through the beautiful nature reserve of the Lamai Mountains in an 'off the beaten track' adventure that quickly immerses you into the cool shade of the tropical rainforest. Your guide will introduce you to the hidden world of Samui's magnificent flora and fauna as you pass by ancient strangler trees and ferns, canopied with exotic wild orchids and hanging liana, the home of a variety of tropical birds and animals. Please contact our Front-Desk for tickets.
